Position Description

The Department of Asian Languages and Literature in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Washington (Seattle) invites applications for a part-time, non-tenure eligible position. This position has an anticipated start date of Autumn 2022 and end date of June 15, 2023, with the possibility for renewal.

Teaching load will consist of five courses a year (on the quarter system), with the possibility of mentoring students through additional independent studies. In addition to teaching, the person will work closely with other Chinese program faculty to meet the academic needs of Flagship students. The position will be involved in interviewing and selecting students for Flagship Program participation and will provide feedback about student progress and language proficiency of each student. The position will also be involved in assisting the director to interview and select Flagship tutors, and working with other program faculty and staff to organize cultural events as needed.

Qualifications

MA in Chinese language, linguistics, or a related field. The degree must be completed by the start date. Experience in teaching Chinese as a second language at the college level, preferably at the advanced level, is a must. Teaching experience with computer-aided instruction and online resources is strongly preferred. Experiences and interest in organizing cultural events are also preferred.
