The Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Washington (Seattle) invites applications for a 50% Part-time Lecturer. This is a non-tenure-track position with a 9-month (mid-September through mid-June) service period. The initial appointment, with an anticipated start date of September 16, 2024.
The Jackson School brings a distinctive intellectual lens to questions of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We model socially inclusive approaches to addressing practical problems in the world today through applied research opportunities that connect students to grassroots communities, policy communities, and transnational actors. We train students to work inclusively and to understand the significance of linguistic, religious, and cultural literacy. Our work de-centers U.S.-centric conceptions of the world and confronts the historical legacies of colonialism as well as inequalities within and between nation-states. Our vision of public engagement has a strong emphasis on equity, justice, human rights, and respect for the histories and knowledge of diverse peoples and places across national borders.
The Jackson School of International Studies seeks a dynamic teacher in Hellenic Studies. The successful candidate must have a demonstrated commitment to innovative and effective pedagogy; ability to address questions of diversity, equity, and inclusion in courses; and expertise in working with diverse student populations. The candidate will be primarily responsible for teaching Hellenic Studies courses. Other teaching opportunities may include areas of specialty that complement curricula and programs in the Jackson School of International Studies.
We are seeking a candidate to join our faculty as a 50% part-time lecturer for a 9-month service period. Positions in this title are non-tenure track and not promotion-eligible. Appointments in these positions may be for multiple years (1-5 years). Reappointments are contingent upon instructional needs, performance, and funding. The start date is September 16, 2024. Washington State Law requires that this ad list a binding salary range. The appointment will be 50% FTE at 50% of the full-time rate. The full-time base salary range for this position will be $4,800 - $6,700 per month, prorated based on the appointment FTE and commensurate with experience and qualifications or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Qualifications
Minimum requirements:
- Ph.D., or Foreign Equivalent.
- 5 years of experience teaching Hellenic Studies Courses at the university level
- Demonstrated commitment to innovative and effective pedagogy
- Demonstrated ability to teach courses in Hellenic Studies; Modern Greek Studies; Reception Studies; Gender and Women’s Studies; Migration Studies; European Studies; Comparative Literature;
- Expertise in working with diverse student populations
