Learning Ready/Writing Ready: Preparing for Success at a Global University

This writing-intensive course will introduce you to what it means to read, write and talk with other students at a highly competitive, global institution. We’ll help you develop both your writing fluency and your writing confidence as you prepare to tackle college composition courses. While conversing with other students, you’ll also learn new strategies from the science of cognitive learning.

All in all, we want to help you become more self-assured as a learner, writer and class participant as you begin your first year of study at the University of Washington.

Course Curriculum and Features

The course builds your ability to engage in college-level writing tasks, strengthens your language fluency through regular reading and classroom interaction, and teaches you college-level learning and study skills. The first half of the course focuses on the skills you’ll need to help your brain learn best. In the second half, you'll complete a learning-based research project that provides hands-on experience with campus writing centers, libraries and online resources.

Designed for

Students who want to strengthen their writing and learning skills to meet college-level study expectations, as well as those who want to build a supportive academic and social community with their classmates.

Salary:  The appointment will be 100% FTE at 100% of the full-time rate. The full-time base salary range for this position will be $5597 - $6946 per month for a 9-month service period appointment, prorated based on the appointment FTE, and commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
