Position(s):
The University of Washington, School of Social Work invites applications for Part-Time Lecturer. Part-time lecturers are non-tenure track, non-voting members of the UW faculty, appointed at .50FTE or more, with a 9-month service period, (with the possibility of additional teaching in the three summer months). Initial appointment begins in Fall Quarter/September. After initial appointment (1-2 years), positions are eligible for multi-year reappointments following a successful end-of-year review.
The base salary range for these positions will be $4900 - $5,300 per month at 1.0 FTE, prorated to appointment FTE, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
We seek experienced social work practitioner-educators who are committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice in practice and teaching in BASW foundation practice and/or MSW foundation and advanced practice and/or in a specialization area of professional social work. Applicants must evidence knowledge and skills for engagement, mentorship, and teaching to enrich and educate our diverse student body for future practice. We are recruiting creative colleagues who bring fresh perspectives to the educational mission of the school and the capacity to collaborate with their colleagues to support the integration of the practicum experience with coursework. Our School’s social justice mission leads us to invest in instructors who in their practice and teaching show evidence of experience with, understanding of, and competence in working with diverse individuals, families, groups, and communities. Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, a PhD or Doctorate in Social Work (DSW), and an LICSW.
Responsibilities:
Part-time Lecturers at the UWSSW are faculty members who are hired to serve as course instructors in the BASW and MSW programs, including MSW Day, Extended Degree, Weekend, and Advanced Standing options (with courses scheduled either during the Day, Evening, or all day Saturday). Lecturers appointed at .50FTE or more teach 3 courses, for a total of 9-12 credits per academic year. Part-time lecturers are expected to plan, teach, and evaluate their courses, and work closely with other faculty with whom they may be teaching course sections. Lecturers will advise, mentor, and work with students in their courses to engage them in course content. Faculty also participate in collaborative course development, planning, and assessment, as needed. Experienced lecturers may advise and mentor new part-time lecturers, doctoral student instructors, and teaching assistants for their courses.
Qualifications
An MSW or graduate degree in a related professional practice discipline (psychology, family and marriage counseling, sociology, health sciences), or the foreign equivalent
Candidates for MSW practice courses must have an MSW from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited social work program, or the foreign equivalent, and a minimum of 3-4 years, full-time post-MSW practice experience
Training or experience in theories and best practices related to professional social work
A background in social justice work with diverse communities
Positive teaching evaluations at the university level, and integration of research, theory, and practice in their substantive areas of expertise
