Position Description

The Department of Pharmacy is seeking a motivated candidate for a full-time, 100% FTE, 12-month service period non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor with an anticipated start date of March 2023. This position will direct the endowed Bracken Pharmacy Learning Center (BPLC) and provide practice-based leadership and instruction in the PharmD program. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Directorship: The Bracken Pharmacy Learning Center provides an optimal environment for students and practitioners to learn the technical and clinical skills needed for patient-focused care. Currently fourteen skills courses are taught within the PharmD Curriculum, with heavy interaction at the BPLC.  The Director will oversee BPLC operations and student outreach to the community, lead the faculty and staff team, and serve as a liaison with practitioners and educators to further develop our innovation and excellence in the practice-oriented curriculum. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in service, scholarship and regional/national leadership commensurate with their appointment level.

Teaching: The successful candidate will be expected to engage in student-centered teaching focused on patient-centered care, progressive pharmacy practice and to teach about the pharmacy practice landscape. Additionally, the candidate will be the primary coordinator for core Pharmacy Practice PharmD courses taught in the BPLC. Positive factors for consideration include but are not limited to background in health systems pharmacy practice and medication safety.

The successful candidate will join a diverse department (50 faculty with over 400 adjunct, affiliate, and clinical faculty) with nationally recognized expertise in pharmacotherapeutics, clinical pharmacology, geriatrics, pharmacogenomics, translational research, pharmacoepidemiology, health economics, outcomes research, and health policy evaluation. The School of Pharmacy ranks #3 in the U.S. for total research funding per faculty member. Faculty received 67 grants and awards in 2021 totaling more than $24 million. The collaboration opportunities at the University of Washington are unparalleled and include the six health sciences schools (dentistry, nursing, medicine, pharmacy, public health, and social work) as well as the Institute of Translational Health Sciences, UW Medical Center, VA Puget Sound Health Care System, Seattle Children’s, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute, the Gates Foundation, and PATH.

The base salary range for this position will be [$9,000 - $11,000] per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. 

Qualifications

  • PharmD degree (or foreign equivalent), and 2 years of post-graduate training (PGY1 or 2) residency or fellowship. 4 years of equivalent pharmacy practice experience will be accepted in lieu of 2-year fellowship or residency.
  • 2 years of patient care-focused teaching experience
  • Washington State Pharmacist licensure will be required.
