Appointment Details


  • Title: Visiting Lecturer
  • Service Period: 9 or 12 months
  • Limitations on Appointment: “An employee who does not hold a professorial position elsewhere, but who is otherwise qualified, may be designated as a visiting Lecturer.” (Faculty Code 24-34B.12). This title may be held for a maximum of two years.
  • Length of Appointment: 3, 6, 9 or 12 months
  • Eligible for Tenure: No
  • Voting Rights: N/A
  • Salary Requirements: Must meet University minimum
  • Full-Time/Part-time: Both
  • Promotable: No
  • Competitive Recruitment Required: No

    • Chair/Director’s letter
    • Faculty Vote
    • Letters of recommendation (three preferred, but only one is mandatory)
    • Curriculum Vitae
    • Background Check documents, if applicable

  • Not a promotable title

Reappointment Details


  • May be reappointed on a quarterly or annual basis.
  • This title may be held for a maximum of two years.
  • Documentation required is a single PDF including correspondence from the chair/director to the faculty member indicating the reappointment decision including faculty member’s name, title, and term of the appointment as well as the faculty member’s acceptance of the reappointment.

Termination Details


  • Appointment for a set period of time. If the faculty member leaves prior to the end of their appointment, a resignation letter should be provided.
