  • Title: Acting Assistant Professor pending PhD
  • Service Period: 9 or 12 months
  • Limitations on Appointment: Appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor requires outstanding, mature scholarship as evidenced by accomplishments in teaching, and in research as evaluated in terms of national recognition
  • Duration of Appointment: 0-2 years
  • Eligible for Tenure: No
  • Voting Rights: No
  • Salary Requirements: Must meet University minimum
  • Full-time/Part-time: Both. The percentage of appointment must be clearly documented at the time of hire.
  • Promotable: No
  • Competitive Recruitment Required: Yes
  • Additional Information: This title is only used in a search that advertises for an Assistant Professor, and is used when the selected candidate has not yet completed their terminal degree. When the degree is conferred, the title will change to Assistant Professor.

Termination Details


  • Emeritus Eligibility: No
  • A faculty member has a professional obligation to give a written notice of resignation at the earliest possible opportunity. Normally such resignations should be given at least three months prior to the termination date, or within 15 days of notification of terms of a reappointment, whichever occurs later, and should ordinarily become effective at the end of an academic year (Faculty Code Section 24-56A).
  • The unit should attempt to obtain such a letter with a statement from the faculty member indicating the name and address of next employer.
