Unlike faculty with a 12-month service period, faculty with a 9-month service period are not expected to work during the summer months, but may do so with unit approval.
UW faculty do not accrue vacation time. Faculty with 9-month service periods who choose to work continuously throughout Summer Quarter (June 16-Sept 15) do so voluntarily and forfeit summer time off. Units should provide the faculty member with an offer/assignment letter, including the forfeiture of time off, and faculty need to provide acknowledgement of receipt of offer and agree to assignment terms. Documentation of offer and acknowledgement/agreement should be placed in maintain worker documents when submitting the Summer FTE transaction.
Summer employment should be paid through regular salary commensurate with the level of corresponding effort. Faculty with 9-month service periods who are employed during the summer may also receive additional compensation consistent with policy, but only after they reach 100% FTE.
