The University of Washington values transparency in the promotion and tenure process. As added to the faculty code 24-54 in January, 2021, promotion criteria should be published. All three campuses are subject to the general criteria outlined in the faculty code in Chapter 24: Appointment and Promotion of Faculty Members and Chapter 25: Tenure of the Faculty and in Executive Order 45: Documentation of Qualifications and Recommendations for Promotion, Tenure, and Merit Increases. The specific manifestations of the criteria for promotion differ by academic unit. Each school, college, and campus (SCC) maintains unit-specific guidelines to clarify their expectations regarding these criteria. Many units also have separate guidelines at the departmental level, but these should all be accessible from the SCC website links listed below.
