Summary
For academic year 2026-2027, this 90-minute APF training is required for chairs of faculty search committees in units outside the School of Medicine. Although not required, all members of faculty search committees are also encouraged to take this APF training.
APF trainings are offered live throughout the year, both in person and online. Certification is valid for 3 years from the date of completion. See FAQs for more information.
Note: This required APF training is distinct from both the School of Medicine Faculty Hiring Training and the UWHR Inclusive Hiring Training.

Training Overview
- Review basic components of a successful faculty search.
- Review relevant university policies and compliance obligations, including EO81, CRC Checklists, required templates for job ads and records retention.
- Discuss committee dynamics and review potential Conflicts of Interest.
- Discuss potential bias and best practices for assessment.
Learning Objectives
- Define, recognize, and address potential Conflicts of Interest, bias, and perceptions of bias before beginning assessment.
- Recognize different types of potential bias that can affect assessment and decision making and describe strategies to mitigate these, including the effective use of assessment rubrics.
- Apply strategies for working well as a team, for building consensus on assessment criteria and processes, and for ensuring effective committee deliberations.
