APF Required Faculty Search Committee Training

Summary

For academic year 2026-2027, this 90-minute APF training is required for chairs of faculty search committees in units outside the School of Medicine. Although not required, all members of faculty search committees are also encouraged to take this APF training. 

APF trainings are offered live throughout the year, both in person and online. Certification is valid for 3 years from the date of completion. See FAQs for more information. 

Note: This required APF training is distinct from both the School of Medicine Faculty Hiring Training and the UWHR Inclusive Hiring Training.

APF trainings will be offered at least once per quarter. If a unit needs to schedule a custom training, please contact us at facadv@uw.edu.

All attendees are required to check in prior to the start of training. Sessions will open 10-15 minutes before the posted training time. Please plan to arrive early to ensure you are compliant with all the steps required for certification.

Training Overview

Learning Objectives

  • Define, recognize, and address potential Conflicts of Interest, bias, and perceptions of bias before beginning assessment.
  • Recognize different types of potential bias that can affect assessment and decision making and describe strategies to mitigate these, including the effective use of assessment rubrics.
  • Apply strategies for working well as a team, for building consensus on assessment criteria and processes, and for ensuring effective committee deliberations.

Certification Process

Attendees must complete the following required steps in order to be certified:

  • RSVP for training:
    • RSVP should be completed before training begins. If registering the day of a training, must sign-in at least 10 minutes before training begins.
  • Check in form:
    • Must be completed live, just prior to the start of training.
    • Plan to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to posted training time to complete the live check in form.
  • Attend the full 90-minute training:
    • Must attend the entire 90-minute training.
    • Late arrivals and early departures may attend the training, but will not receive certification.
  • Check out form:
    • Must be completed live, at the end of training.

Attendees should plan to arrive early to ensure they have time to complete the training check in form, a required step of the training certification process. Sessions will open 10-15 minutes before the posted training time. 

Our APF team will track completion; certified attendees will receive a confirmation email containing their training date, reference number and expiry date. Please save this email for your records.

Certification for this new required training is valid for 3 years from the date of completion.
