Starting a Promotion and/or Tenure Case
Welcome to the University of Washington’s resource hub for Promotion and Tenure (P&T). The University uses Interfolio Review, Promotion & Tenure (RPT) to manage promotion and tenure cases requiring provost approval.
Interfolio RPT streamlines workflows, promotes consistency, and supports transparency for faculty, administrators, and reviewers. Below, you’ll find the essential steps for starting new promotion and/or tenure cases.
With features that simplify workflows, standardize practices, and foster greater transparency, Interfolio RPT supports faculty, administrators, and reviewers in managing every aspect of the P&T cycle. Below you will find the basic steps to getting new promotion and/or tenure cases started:
- Before you start, ensure your templates have been updated as necessary. Review Annual Template Preparation for more information.
- Once your templates are ready, initiate your cases via the Case Maintenance page. The case will be created in RPT within 2 hours of submitting the case initiation request.
- Locate your case either directly in RPT or by clicking on the case number next to the candidate’s name on the Case Maintenance page.
Information for logging into RPT can be found in Interfolio support resources. - Prepare the candidate’s case
- Update the subcommittee (if used)
- Upload your local P&T criteria
- Upload any other materials, as appropriate
- Ensure steps with required forms have a Committee Manager designated in order for them to complete the form
- Notify the candidate that their case is ready
- Candidates can access their case by following the link in their notification email. They can begin uploading their materials. Once everything is complete, the candidate must click Submit to send their case to the first step in the workflow.
- Continue moving the case through the workflow and eventually forward it to the first APF step for review
- Review the Promotion & Tenure FAQ page for reminders and tips on how to manage the case throughout the workflow
