Department of Ophthalmology: Postdoctoral Scholar

Position description

The Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Washington, has a one-year Postdoctoral Scholar position available to study ocular inflammatory disease in humans using molecular and immunologic techniques. This is a project requiring advanced training in human immunology (PhD in Immunology preferred). Candidates should be highly motivated and have a strong background in molecular biology, cytokine analysis, and flow cytometry. Experience with scRNAseq analysis is not mandatory but desirable.  This position will primarily be in Dr. Kathryn Pepple’s laboratory.

This is a full-time Postdoctoral Scholar position on an annual, 12-month appointment with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025.  Postdoctoral Researchers are represented by UAW 4121 and are subject to the collective bargaining agreement, unless agreed exclusion criteria apply. We are interested in defining the types of immune cells responsible for ocular inflammation, how they use cytokines to mediate disease, and how the cells and cytokines respond to treatment. We have a special interest in uveitis associated with ocular viral infection.  Highly competitive candidates will have prior experience innate and/or adaptive immune responses to viral infection in humans.

The base salary range for this position will be $5,705 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree relevant to biological science with less than 3 years of post-doctoral training. Experience in the inflammatory disease of the eye or central nervous system is preferred, but not required. The successful applicant will design and perform experiments, interface with clinical research staff to coordinate research specimen collection and analysis, write manuscripts and participate in Departmental and extramural scholarly activities. Applicants are expected to apply for internal and external funding after obtaining preliminary data. The ideal candidate will have excellent technical and communication skills and willingness to work well with others.
