The Department of Medicine at the University of Washington (UW) is recruiting a new Associate Program Director for the UW Boise Internal Medicine Residency located in Boise, ID.
The new Associate Program Director would join a residency leadership team comprised of the Program Director, a second Associate Program Director, and a three-person administrative team to guide the training of 40 residents in a fully accredited program. The mission of the UW Boise Internal Medicine Residency is to grow a community of curious, compassionate, and versatile physicians who serve, lead, and teach in Idaho and the Northwest. Responsibilities of the new Associate Program Director would include chairing the clinical competency committee, designing curricula, teaching/mentoring residents, assisting with resident recruitment, and advising the Program Director in the day-to-day decisions of the residency. The FTE for the Associate Program Director role is based at the Boise VA. Clinical FTE and responsibilities could be based at the Boise VA or at St. Luke’s Healthcare System and would include working in the applicant’s area of expertise (i.e., outpatient general internal medicine, hospital medicine, or one of the medicine subspecialties). Most of the clinical time would be while attending with resident and student learners.
The full-time position will be appointed to the faculty at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, without tenure due to funding (WOT). Depending on their qualifications and board certification, the successful candidate will be appointed to the faculty in one of the department’s subspecialty divisions. Academic appointment at University of Washington and salary for Associate Program Director FTE at Boise VA Medical Center will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank. Assistant professors (WOT) are eligible for multi-year appointments and associate and full professors (WOT) hold indefinite appointments that all align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.
This position is paid directly by the Boise VA Medical Center and receives no UW compensation. The position will report to the Program Director (Dr. Melissa “Moe” Hagman) and the Boise VA Education Section Chief (Dr. William Weppner). Please refer to the Boise VA Medical Center for information about compensation for this position. The anticipated start date is not later than July 2025.
Qualifications
Candidates must possess demonstrated excellence in education, strong leadership skills, and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Candidates should have an MD/DO (or foreign equivalent), board certification in Internal Medicine (or foreign equivalent) and must be eligible for medical licensure in the state of Idaho. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens (permanent residents may be appointed only if it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens).
