Position Description

The University of Washington's Department of Ophthalmology is currently recruiting for a full-time position in neuro-ophthalmology and comprehensive ophthalmology.  This position will be based at Harborview Medical Center. This position is without tenure due to funding. Anticipated start date is summer 2023.

Assistant professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). This faculty appointment is paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.  

This appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor WOT and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Qualified candidates of all levels of experience will be considered.

Responsibilities include clinical care, resident and fellow supervision and training including both medical and surgical training, and teaching of medical students. Candidates will be expected to provide medical and surgical care, including evaluation and treatment of consult and emergency patients.  Candidates will be expected to practice both neuro-ophthalmology and provide medical and surgical comprehensive ophthalmology care for patients.

Qualifications

Candidates must have an MD or DO (or foreign equivalent) in a relevant field and have completed ophthalmology residency (or foreign equivalent). Candidates must have completed a neuro-ophthalmology fellowship. 

A demonstrated record of teaching and scholarly research in ophthalmology is required.  Applicants must be American Board of Ophthalmology-certified (or foreign equivalent) or Board eligible and eligible for medical licensure in the State of Washington.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S,) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
