The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and the University of Washington School of Medicine invite nominations and applications for the inaugural Senior Vice President & Division Director, Hematology and Oncology at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and Head, of the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the University of Washington (UW) Department of Medicine. 

This position will be dual appointed with a primary appointment at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and dual appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Washington. The position will have a dual reporting line to the President and Director of Fred Hutch, Dr. Tom Lynch, as well as to the Chair of Medicine, University of Washington, Dr. Barbara Jung.

In collaboration with senior leadership of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and UW Department of Medicine, the incumbent will provide executive and strategic leadership, with a strong vision, to build a new combined Division of Hematology and Oncology at UW/Fred Hutch and accordingly develop programs that connect the research, teaching and academic enterprise of Fred Hutch and University of Washington.

The incumbent will serve as an academic, clinical, and educational leader, charged with developing and implementing strategies for faculty recruitment, emphasizing emerging directions in hematologic and solid tumor research, while also fostering the broader research portfolio of the cancer center, as well as overseeing hematology/oncology fellowship training and clinical care delivery in hematology and oncology. Responsibilities will also include ensuring oversight of and participation in divisional strategic planning, faculty oversight, appointment and promotion, and mentoring/supervising trainees while attending on clinical service. The incumbent will exhibit sound management of financial resources and will partner with the Chief Medical Officer of FHCC to meet operation and fiscal KPIs of their clinical domains.

Appointment to the full-time faculty at the UW would be at the rank of associate or full professor (with tenure). Salary and academic appointment at UW will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank. Associate and full professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.

Appointment at Fred Hutch would be at the rank of associate for full professor. Fred Hutch does not employ a tenure track, instead opting for an ongoing review system where faculty are evaluated every five years for consideration of promotion from assistant, to associate, to full professor. The contributions and productivity of Full Professor continue to be evaluated on this timescale.

Candidates must possess demonstrated excellence and proven leadership in clinical oncology research and enjoy national recognition for achievements in hematology and/or oncology. Candidates should have an MD (or foreign equivalent) and board certification in hematology or oncology (or foreign equivalent). In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent, as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
