The Department of Biostatistics at the University of Washington invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar - Microbiome Statistics to work under the supervision of Dr. Amy Willis. The successful candidate will develop statistical methods for the analysis of shotgun metagenomic sequencing data, and apply the proposed methods to study adaptations of the human microbiome to zoonotic exposures.

Postdoctoral scholars are represented by UAW 4121 and are subject to the collective bargaining agreement, unless agreed exclusion criteria apply. For more information, please visit the University of Washington Labor Relations website.

Dr. Willis is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biostatistics and the Principal Investigator of the Statistical Diversity Lab. The StatDivLab develops rigorous methodology to address the most pressing open problems in statistical and quantitative microbiome research. The StatDivLab is a highly collaborative team, and the candidate will be invited to participate in lab social events, group projects, and peer mentoring, as well as departmental social and professional events. Dr. Willis is committed to the short- and long-term professional development of lab members, and will work with the candidate to develop a tailored professional development plan to support their career goals.

The successful candidate should have a PhD, at least one published or submitted first-author paper, and research experience in at least one of the following fields: statistical methodology, computational biology, quantitative ecology, microbial ecology, occupational health, computer science. Experience authoring statistical software is essential. Experience with the analysis of microbiome data is an advantage, but not essential.
