Position Description

A Postdoctoral Scholar Fellow position is available in the Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine at the University of Washington to study the transforming growth factor beta signaling in aortic homeostasis and disease.  

This is a full-time Postdoctoral Scholar Fellow position on an annual, 12-month appointment. Postdoctoral scholars are represented by UAW 4121 and are subject to the collective bargaining agreement, unless agreed exclusion criteria apply. The project pursues investigations that test hypotheses about the role of transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) signaling in normal aortic physiology and in the pathogenesis of aortic aneurysms. Studies are carried out with the aid of genetically modified mice, including mice that develop aortic aneurysms in association with mutations in the type 2 TGF-β receptor.  Approaches include analysis of gene expression both in bulk and single-cell RNA samples, proteomics, immunoblotting, microscopy, myography, and bioinformatics.  Epigenetics is an emerging focus.  Experience in bioinformatics, including use of “R”, is highly desirable.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree relevant to biological science and a strong publication record, including first-authorships.
