The Physical Sciences Division in the School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) at the University of Washington Bothell (UW Bothell) seeks a dynamic educator who has expertise in teaching for a Part-Time Lecturer Competitive appointment beginning in Winter Quarter 2023. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to innovative and effective pedagogy, have expertise in working with diverse student populations, and are open to collaborating with colleagues. We are seeking a candidate to join our faculty on a part-time basis (50% - 100%) for a 9-month service period with opportunities to teach during the summer.  Positions in this title are non-tenure track and not promotion eligible.  Appointments in these positions may be for multiple years (1-5 years).  Reappointments are contingent upon instructional needs, performance and funding. The candidate will be primarily responsible for teaching general chemistry labs. Other teaching opportunities may include areas of specialty, e.g. organic, analytical, physical, inorganic and or biochemistry.  For information on the chemistry courses taught, please reference the UW Bothell course descriptions.

We offer twenty-three undergraduate and graduate degrees and eight minors across four Divisions (Biological SciencesComputing and Software SystemsEngineering and MathematicsPhysical Sciences). The School is housed in several buildings on a vibrant campus co-located on a restored 100-acre wetland with an active salmon stream, including the 74,000 square-foot Discovery Hall teaching and laboratory facility, with a new 77,000 square-foot STEM building in collaboration with Cascadia College opening in Fall 2023.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements for the position include:

  • PhD in chemistry or related field, or foreign equivalent required by time of appointment. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to innovative and effective pedagogy.
  • A commitment to teaching excellence.
  • Willingness to engage with diverse student populations.
