Position Description

The University of Washington, Department of Pediatrics, Division of General Pediatrics along with the Seattle Children’s Research Institute Center for Child Health, Behavior & Development  invites applications for a full time Assistant Professor, without tenure by reason of funding, on the faculty-scientist track. This is a multi-year appointment with a 12-month service period position (July 1-June 30) with an anticipated start date of Winter 2023.

Assistant Professors (without tenure) are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.  

This position will build a research program at Seattle Children’s and the University of Washington focused on interpersonal violence, particularly as influenced by alcohol and substance use and other risk behaviors among youth and young adults. The research program will utilize key methodologies within health economics, decision science, and community-partnered research to identify and evaluate policies and systems that can lead to improved health outcomes in this population of youth and young adults. This position will be expected to apply for and obtain extramural grant support.

This position provides an opportunity to work at The Center for Child Health, Behavior, and Development (CCHBD) at Seattle Children's Research Institute. Applicants will be eligible for faculty appointment at the University of Washington and will join a group of highly collaborative research scientists at CCHBD with expertise in pediatrics, health services research, psychiatry, psychology, biostatics, and epidemiology.

All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. 

The base salary range for this position will be: Assistant Professors MD $12,010 - $18,014 per month ($144,120 - $216,168 annually), Assistant Professors PhD $10,417 - $12,917 per month ($125,004 - $155,004 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have earned a doctorate degree (MD or PhD or foreign equivalent) with documented expertise in health services research, health policy, epidemiology, psychology, child and human development, sociology, or other relevant fields.

Successful applicants will have a history of and existing research funding.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S,) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
