Together with the community, Seattle Children’s and the University of Washington Departments of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Pediatrics are seeking an Executive Director to provide visionary, inclusive leadership to create, lead and develop a new Equity Institute as its Executive Director.  The Institute will partner with community leaders and will focus on promoting health equity, prevention and eliminate and dismantle institutionalized racism in health; its goal will be accomplished through programmatic and research activities, informed by community-directed needs and applying evidence-based recommendations.

The successful candidate will be appointed full-time at the rank of either Associate Professor or Professor (both without tenure by reason of funding) in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology or Department of Pediatrics at the University of Washington. Academic rank at the time of appointment is commensurate with experience and qualifications.  These titles are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. Anticipated start date will be Fall 2022.

The Executive Director will be expected to lead bidirectional, community-engaged, anti-racist research in partnership and among underrepresented populations and foster a community-based understanding of population health.  Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to lived experience or in-depth understanding of health inequities and structural and interpersonal racism.  All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Candidates who are interested in clinical patient care will provide medical services at the University of Washington affiliated hospitals, train residents, fellows and medical students.

Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to

  • physician or physician scientist with a strong history of federal research funding
  • experience leading bidirectional, community-engaged research with populations who are underrepresented
  • creative vision for development and growth of the Institute
  • a track record of building and leading research programs or groups focused on health equity
  • previous success in mentoring early-career faculty in their scholarly pursuits
  • evidence of leading advocacy and/or programmatic actions to promote equity and anti-racism within child/family health

The base salary range for this position will be: $12,500 - $39,584 per month ($150,000 - $475,008 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through Children’s University Medical Group practice plan. Additional administrative responsibilities may be offered to a specific candidate with appropriate experience and qualifications which may result in an administrative supplement (ADS).


The successful candidate will have an MD or DO (or foreign equivalent) and be certified by the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology or American Board of Pediatrics (or a subspecialty thereof). Completion of a residency in either Obstetrics & Gynecology or in Pediatrics is required

To be eligible for sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
