The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is an integral component of the UW School of Medicine and it shares UW Medicine’s Mission to ‘Improve the Health of the Public.’ We strive to accomplish this by providing the best care we can today, conducting research to develop better treatments for tomorrow, and inspiring and training the next generation of healthcare professionals for the Pacific Northwest. The department is the third largest department within the School of Medicine and has a $78 M operating budget. Department faculty members provide clinical services and teach at health care facilities in the Puget Sound area and at several rural locations in the WWAMI region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho). The department also has a robust research portfolio nearly $35 M annually in sponsored projects. Educational programs include a nationally renowned scientist-practitioner psychology internship program and post-doctoral clinical and research fellowships, a required medical student clerkship for 240 medical students per year at 30 sites across the WWAMI region, a nationally competitive psychiatry residency with more than 70 psychiatry residents in Seattle and in two regional residency tracks in Idaho and Montana, and subspecialty fellowships in addiction, child and adolescent, consultation-liaison, and geriatric psychiatry.
Seattle Children’s provides a wide continuum of programming for children in the Pacific Northwest that address community-based care and prevention. Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Behavioral Health is a focus program at SCH and receives extraordinary support for its important role in the Northwest.
The University of Washington’s Division of Child Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at Seattle Children’s is seeking candidates for one full or part-time academic psychologist at the rank of Assistant Professor without tenure due to funding (WOT) in either the clinician-teacher or faculty-scientist pathway. Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. Please note: only full-time positions are eligible for visa sponsorship.
We anticipate the hire to take place in Fall 2022 or Winter 2023.
This position will specialize in evidence-based treatment of depression and anxiety in youth in the Mood and Anxiety Program (MAP) at Seattle Children’s Hospital (SCH). Seattle Children’s is a large tertiary medical center affiliated with the University of Washington School of Medicine and serving a four-state area. The mood and anxiety program is one of the largest outpatient programs within the child psychiatry division.
The psychologist will support the MAP clinic with clinical care, research, and program development activities for this outpatient program. MAP is a large clinical team that includes psychiatrists, psychologists, nurse practitioners, mental health therapists, and case managers. Providers on this team participate in a highly collaborative multi-disciplinary team approach to assessment and treatment. The clinical team in MAP provides comprehensive evaluations and evidence-based intervention within a stepped-care framework. Interventions involve groups and individual care, and may involve work with our intensive outpatient programs. The psychologist will participate in the further development of programs of care to help meet the community need while upholding clinical integrity. This psychologist will work closely with the MAP Director, a psychologist and faculty member.
This position is involved in psychology and psychiatry training, research, and clinical care. The successful candidate will participate in our University of Washington APA accredited internship program, a postdoctoral fellowship program, and supervise clinical and school psychology practicum students. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.
Positive factors for consideration include but are not limited to interest in program development, intervention research, expertise in interventions for depression and anxiety with a multi-disciplinary team, and experience with different levels of intervention.
Qualifications
PhD, PsyD or foreign equivalent in clinical or school psychology or a related field from an APA-accredited doctoral program (or foreign equivalent).
Training in clinical child and adolescent psychology which may include completion of an APA-accredited (or foreign equivalent) pediatric or clinical psychology internship; and/or completion of a post-doctoral fellowship in clinical psychology or psychology with a major focus on mood and anxiety.
Licensed to practice psychology or eligibility to become licensed in Washington State.
