The University of Washington Tacoma invites applications for a two-quarter, non-renewable Part Time Lecturer in Communication in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences (SIAS).

This is a part-time position for Winter and Spring Quarters 2023 with the position starting on January 3, 2023. The successful candidate will teach Media & Society and Social Media, both of which are 200-level courses. Communication faculty at the University of Washington Tacoma are committed to taking a critical perspective and engaging in the work of inclusivity, diversity, and equity across the breadth of their teaching and research. The successful candidate should demonstrate a commitment to supporting diverse student populations through inclusive teaching practices and should integrate effective pedagogical techniques and technologies into teaching/learning. Candidates must reside in Washington State.

The position primarily contributes to the Communication major but also supports other interdisciplinary majors and concentrations at UW Tacoma.  The Tacoma campus of the University of Washington was founded in 1990 with an interdisciplinary approach at its foundation. It has evolved into a thriving downtown campus that serves students of a wide variety of ages and backgrounds in the South Puget Sound. Faculty have access to the resources of a major research university, including an extensive library system, but work and teach within a small campus setting. Our campus provides a unique environment for the development of creative teaching, research and community collaborations. The base salary range for this position will be $1750 per month per 5-credit course (0.33 FTE) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. A summary of benefits associated with this title/rank can be found at


The position requires a doctorate or other terminal degree, or foreign equivalent in Communication or related field. Candidates in the final stages of their dissertation will also be considered.  The position is expected to teach courses primarily in-person, but some online teaching may be negotiable with appropriate evidence of online teaching certification.
