The University of Washington Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine has an academic pain psychologist position available at the rank of Acting Assistant Professor.  Acting Assistant Professors hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms.  Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.  This position is full-time with an anticipated start date of May 2023 or soon thereafter.  The base salary range for this position will be:  $8,334 - $10,834 per month ($100,008 - $130,008 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a US Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.  This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University.  Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations.  Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through UW Physicians practice plan.  Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.  For practitioners holding an appointment in the physicians practice plan, see the link for additional benefits that may be available at UWP:  The successful candidate will have a primary clinical appointment as a clinical psychologist at our comprehensive outpatient pain treatment facility, the University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC)-Center for Pain Relief.  Clinical duties will include outpatient assessment (e.g., spinal cord stimulator evaluations, bio-psycho-social intake evaluations) and psychotherapy as part of the UWMC-Center for Pain Relief.  The successful candidate will be expected to assist in the development of comprehensive treatment plans and provide consultation with Center for Pain Relief pain physicians and advanced practice providers for patients with depression, anxiety disorder, and PTSD, with co-existing pain diagnoses.  Experience in the provision of evidence-based psychotherapies, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness/meditation, motivational interviewing (MI), and hypnosis for chronic pain and other comorbid concerns is expected.  The department anticipates expansion of clinical service delivery in the future and, although not required, welcomes candidates with interests in clinical service development, is meant to refer to possibility of transdisciplinary care involvement or offering of other types of therapies.  University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.  Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.


Must have PhD degree (or foreign equivalent) in psychology and completion of internship in an APA-approved clinical psychology graduate school program.  Must be eligible for psychology licensure in state of Washington. 

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-US) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the US Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
