The Department of Radiology in the School of Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle is recruiting for one full-time (100% FTE) faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor without tenure (WOT) by reason of funding, commensurate with experience, to join the department with an anticipated start date of November 1, 2022.    Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30).  Associate Professors WOT and full Professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period  (July 1-June 30).  Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

The Department of Radiology has an enviable track record of innovative, effective and transformative imaging informatics expertise. The post holder will oversee a strong team of radiologists with a mature interest in informatics to continue this trajectory. Together with representation from UW Medicine IT, the Vice Chair will lead a robust cohort of projects in the form of EMR/PACS optimization, next generation radiology reports, clinical decision support, radiology analytics, natural language processing, AI implementations and integrated industry relationship. The postholder will be a candidate to assume the Radiology leadership position in the new UW Institute for Medical Data Science (IMDS). In this role, the successful candidate will be part of the IMDS Advanced Diagnostic Program.

As Vice Chair of Informatics for the Department of Radiology, this role will work closely with the Chair, Section Chiefs, and other Vice Chairs of the department.  Some of the administrative responsibilities included for this role are to optimize the faculty’s utilization of the imaging services informatics, assist in strategic planning for informatics in the department, and aid in implementing quantitative indicators for systems utilization and productivity.

The University of Washington Department of Radiology covers many sites including the University of Washington Medical Center (Montlake, Northwest, and Eastside clinics), Harborview Medical Center, Veteran's Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, and has an affiliate agreement for training with Seattle Children's Hospital.  All UW faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

The base salary range for this position will be: $29,367 - $39,397 per month ($352,404 - $472,764 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.  This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University.  Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations.  Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.  This position is incentive eligible through the physicians practice plan.

Qualifications

Candidates should meet the following requirements:

  • M.D. or D.O., or foreign equivalent, in medicine and eligibility for full medical licensure in Washington State
  • ABR-certified in Radiology, ABR board-eligible, or foreign equivalent
  • Successful completion of the Diagnostic Radiology Residency in an ACGME accredited program or equivalent
  • Excellence in academic achievement as demonstrated by a record of scientific presentation and/or publications
  • Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, fellowship training in Abdominal Imaging or Neuroradiology, or experience working in Abdominal Imaging or Neuroradiology.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. 

NOTE: This position will require work to be performed on-site at a Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) facility. SCCA requires all individuals, including University of Washington faculty clinicians, working at an SCCA facility to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Unlike UW’s vaccination policy which is appended below, the SCCA policy does not provide for religious or medical exemptions. As such, a UW offer associated with this recruitment is contingent upon, among other things, the preferred candidate demonstrating that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by no later than the commencement of their appointment
