The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is an integral component of the UW School of Medicine and shares UW Medicine’s mission to ‘Improve the Health of the Public.’ As the third largest department within the School of Medicine with an annual operating budget of more than $100 M and a research budget of approximately $ 50 M, we provide inpatient and outpatient clinical services at health care facilities throughout the Puget Sound area and at several rural locations in the WWAMI region of Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho. We are committed to improving access to psychiatric care and consultation throughout the greater Pacific Northwest. Our educational programs include a required medical student clerkship for 260 medical students per year at some 30 sites across the WWAMI region and one of the largest psychiatry residency programs in the country with residents training in Seattle, WA; Boise, ID; Billings, MT; and several community-based locations in the Pacific Northwest. Our Seattle-based residents train at four core training sites (UW Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, Seattle Children’s, and the VA Puget Sound Health Care System Seattle Division). We are further expanding our training program with a brand-new $234 million Behavioral Health Teaching Facility scheduled to open on the Northwest Campus of UW Medical Center in the Fall of 2023. Our program focuses on training psychiatrists who are prepared to take roles as leaders of behavioral health care teams in diverse settings in urban and rural underserved areas. We also focus on training psychiatrists who are interested in developing academic careers that advance the health of the public through (1) providing the best care we can today, (2) developing better treatments and solutions for patients and families living with serious mental health and addiction problems, and (3) training and inspiring the next generation of behavioral health professionals. The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in the School of Medicine at the University of Washington is seeking candidates for one full-time faculty position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor without tenure due to funding (WOT) in the Clinician Teacher pathway. This position has a 12-month service period (July 1 – June 30). We anticipate the position to start in Summer of 2022. Salary and academic appointment at University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.
The Residency Program Director serves in a senior leadership position in the department and supports the training of over 80 residents in our General Psychiatry Residency Program with a team of five Associate Program Directors (APDs), including the Core Associate Program Director for Curriculum, and the Core Associate Program Director for Evaluation. The position reports directly to the Chair of the Department, works closely with the Vice Chair of Education, and collaborates with institutional and external partners. The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of the program, including but not limited to recruitment and evaluation of residents, ACGME accreditation and compliance, budget for residency-related activities, selection and development of teaching faculty, and cultivating an environment where residents from all backgrounds can be successful. Qualifications
- MD or DO or foreign equivalent, completion of an ACGME-accredited residency and Board Certification in Psychiatry (i.e., certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) or by the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry)
- Current medical licensure, eligibility for a Washington State medical license, and eligibility for an appropriate medical staff appointment
- In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.,) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
