The University of Washington, Department of Pediatrics and Seattle's Children's Hospital are recruiting a pediatric academic physician with clinical and research interests in therapeutic endoscopy and pancreas care.
The Gastroenterology and Hepatology Division with 16 pediatric GI subspecialists is the largest program in the Pacific Northwest and the only program offering liver and small bowel transplantation. The program provides excellent care in the areas of inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease, gastrointestinal motility, acute and chronic liver disease, liver and intestine transplantation, intestinal rehabilitation, and nutrition evaluation and management. In addition to the active clinical program, the GI division has a robust research portfolio with almost 100 active clinical trials in gastroenterology and hepatology. The division has successful training programs in Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology as well as Transplant Hepatology.
Appointment as full time Professor (without tenure due to funding) of Pediatrics at the University of Washington, School of Medicine, will be commensurate with experience, training and achievement on the Clinician-Scholar track. This position will have a 12-month service period, July 1-June 30. Anticipated start date is Summer of 2022.
This position would involve teaching, research, and clinical service. Protected administrative time is included within the job description to focus on the development and maintenance of the endoscopy program in conjunction with hospital and division leadership.
All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.
Starting Fall 2021, the division will have 17 faculty, 7 fellows, 4 advanced practice practitioners, and is supported by dedicated GI/Hepatology nurses, dietitians, psychologists, social workers, pharmacists, and research coordinators.
The Pediatric liver transplant program at the University of Washington/Seattle Children’s Hospital was originated in 1990. The Pediatric intestinal transplant program was originated in 2005. Liver Transplant volumes are 10-15 yearly (5-year average 12.8), and we follow 200 patients in the outpatient main hospital and outreach clinics. We care for patients from the WWAMI (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho) region as well as Hawaii and Oregon. We are a robust and resilient program of 4 pediatric transplant surgeons, 4 transplant medicine providers, 3 pediatric interventional radiologists, Transplant Anesthesia, 2 Advanced Practice Practitioners, 5 RN Transplant Coordinators, 1 transplant social worker, 2 data specialists, 2 business specialists, 1 quality/compliance coordinator. The Portal hypertension program provides multidisciplinary and advanced interventional care to over 50 patients.
Our program supports a transplant hepatology fellowship that originated in 2015 and enrolls 1 fellow per year. There is a growing living donor liver transplantation program and our program often incorporates the use of technical variant grafts and split liver transplantation.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will have an MD or DO (or foreign equivalent), will have completed a Pediatric Gastroenterology Fellowship, and be board certified in Pediatric Gastroenterology.
In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
