Position Description

The University of Washington (UW) Department of Medicine and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (Fred Hutch) are jointly recruiting a full-time faculty member in the UW Division of Medical Oncology, specializing in research and clinical care in sarcoma and palliative care. This position would be at the Associate Professor rank (without tenure due to funding) and would include an equivalent appointment at Fred Hutch. This position would have an annual service period of 12 months [July 1-June 30]. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to participate in ongoing funded clinical and laboratory research programs related to the biology and treatment of cancer. In addition, the candidate will have the opportunity and resources to develop his/her own clinical research program. Teaching responsibilities would involve oversight of housestaff and fellows during ambulatory and inpatient activities and delivery of lectures to housestaff, fellows, and the general medical community. This position will be expected to fulfill our commitment to institutional service and diversity, equity and inclusion.

University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.

Anticipated start date would be May 1, 2022.

Qualifications

Successful applicants will have demonstrated excellence in teaching, clinical oversight of learners, and research mentorship. The candidate should have a demonstrated record in clinical, translational, or laboratory-based research, with a primary focus on sarcoma and palliative care. 

Applicants must have an MD degree (or foreign equivalent) and board certification (or be board eligible for current palliative care fellows) in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.  

Instructions

Interested candidates should submit a curriculum vitae; a concise statement of their training, research activities, career goals; a diversity statement of past and planned contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion; and list of at least three (3) references, along with a letter of application addressed to Dr. Lee Cranmer. Applicants with a substantial laboratory-based commitment should explicitly discuss the research methods they are currently using and their requirements to achieve independence.
