All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

Environment

The Department of Health Systems and Population Health is a diverse department (60 regular faculty and 280 adjunct, affiliate and clinical faculty) with faculty expertise in health economics, health care systems, health promotion, social determinants of health, and social science. Successful candidates may have an opportunity to be affiliated with several centers within the department, including the Center for Health Innovation and Policy Science, the Health Promotion Research Center, and the Northwest Center for Public Health Practice.

The School of Public Health has five departments: Health Systems and Population Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Environmental and Occupational Health, and Global Health. Depending on the interests and qualifications of the successful candidate, an adjunct appointment may be considered with other UW departments or affiliate institutions. The University of Washington is a public research institution with 140 departments within the various colleges and schools. Additionally, the UW has a Population Health Initiative, which brings faculty from across the University together to address challenges in human health, social and economic equity and environmental resilience. The UW is also home to the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, an independent population health research center that provides rigorous and comparable measurement of the world’s most important health problems and evaluates the strategies used to address them.

In addition to collaboration opportunities across the UW are opportunities for collaboration with other Seattle area institutions (Public Health – Seattle & King County, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute, a national Health Services Research and Development Center of Innovation at the VA, and Seattle Children's Hospital). The Pacific Northwest region is home to American Indian/Alaska Native, immigrant, Latinx, and sexual minority communities, and many of our faculty have longstanding partnerships with organizations working in these communities.
