Position Description
The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, University of Washington, seeks a pathologist as an Assistant Professor WOT (without tenure), due to reasons of funding, to join our Divisions of Hematopathology and Informatics on the clinician-educator pathway. Clinical responsibilities will include diagnostic interpretation in all, or a subset, of the following areas in hematopathology: morphology for lymph nodes, tissues, bloods and marrows, leukemia / lymphoma / PNH flow cytometry (diagnostic and minimal residual disease testing) and/or hematopathology focused molecular diagnostic testing (PCR and NGS). This will include teaching hematology / hematopathology to students, residents and fellows. Applicants are expected to be involved in administrative aspects of the lab, including new test development, and develop an area of focused research / scholarly work. The faculty member will also work with the Informatics division on assessment, development, integration and maintenance of hematopathology related clinical information systems and the adoption of innovative technologies.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform diagnostic interpretation and education related to hematopathologic disorders.
- Support the design and implementation of software and infrastructure solutions to improve the efficiency of clinical processes (including case sign out) and the flow and storage of data
- Identify improvements in laboratory information systems, electronic health record systems, and other clinical production systems and processes (including data analytics) and work with hematopathology and informatics staff to implement improvements
- Assess new technologies, including gathering functional and technical requirements to inform information system selection, implementation, and validation
- Provide oversight and decision-making to support the management of informatics projects, with a focus on hematopathology
- Contribute to the administrative leadership of the DLMP hematopathology and informatics divisions, including participation in hiring of staff, review of budgets and contracts, development and revision of informatics policies, and improvement of informatics processes and procedures
This is a full-time, 12-month service position and remains open until filled with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2022, but is flexible.

Qualifications
The successful candidate must have an M.D. or D.O. (or foreign equivalent) and be Board-eligible or –certified in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology (American Board of Pathology). The candidate must additionally either be Board-eligible or –certified in Hematopathology. Subspecialty expertise in Hematopathology is required. Must qualify for a license to practice medicine in Washington State. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
