The University of Washington’s Department of Rehabilitation Medicine is offering an outstanding opportunity for an academic physiatrist, working primarily at the Multiple Sclerosis Center on the University of Washington Medical Center-Northwest campus. This will be a full-time appointment with an annual service period of 12 months (July 1 – June 30), appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor (without tenure due to source of funding) in the Clinician-Scientist pathway. Anticipated start date is July 1, 2022, but earlier or later dates may be considered.
Our patient and family-centered academic hospital-based rehabilitation program offers tertiary care for a five-state region, serving a wide range of diagnoses. This position practices in a collaborative and multidisciplinary academic environment. Opportunities will be available for building an academic career that includes clinical care, teaching, research opportunities, and program development.
The selected candidate will provide diagnosis, differentiation of MS from other mimicking conditions, treatment, disease modifying treatments, rehabilitation, and symptom management for patients’ optimal outcome and well-being. This work requires strong collaboration with treatment team members including neurology, rehab psychology, pharmacy, social work, and others to manage disease progression and optimize quality of life. The selected candidate also will participate in training for the MS Fellowship. As a key member of the research team, this academic physiatrist will participate in new and continuing funded research supported by NIH, MS national and local organizations, pharma, and private industry.

Qualifications
The successful candidate must
- have a medical degree (MD, DO, or foreign equivalent)
- be board-certified or board-eligible in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
- successful completion of residency training in an accredited PM&R program and a fellowship in Multiple Sclerosis
- have or be eligible for medical licensure by the State of Washington
In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or foreign equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
