The Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery within the University of Washington School of Medicine is recruiting for a full-time Advanced Practice Provider (ARNP or PA) at the rank of Teaching Associate. This is a faculty position and will be based primarily at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) with an anticipated start date in Spring 2022. The APP Teaching Associate appointment is a 12-month service period (July 1 – June 30), with reappointment recommendation on an annual basis. University of Washington faculty engage in clinical care and teaching, with opportunities for quality improvement and research. APPs are an integral part of the surgical faculty team at the SCCA.
The Surgical Oncology ARNP/PA-C is an advanced registered nurse practitioner or certified physician assistant who provides evaluation and management of pre/post-operative patients at the SCCA. The ARNP/PA-C assesses and manages the pre and post-operative phases of treatment, addresses treatment toxicities, performs procedures, monitors for cancer progression or recurrence, and consults with professional peers as needed. They work collaboratively with the treatment team to coordinate care of their patients. All clinical responsibilities are performed within the scope of practice, institutional privileges and under the supervision of an attending physician.
Job Responsibilities
- Collaborates and consults with multiple surgery attending physicians & other disciplines/services to ensure safe, effective, and timely treatment as well as continuity of patient care.
- Performs complex and problem-focused H & P’s
- Evaluates and manages patient in their pre and post-operative stages as well as long-term surveillance
- Performs procedures according to licensure, credentialing, and scope of practice
- Participates in the conduct of cancer clinical research
- Provides patient, caregiver, and peer education
- Communicates effectively with inpatient and outpatient teams
- Participates in patient rounds, conferences and committees
- Active member of the SCCA Rapid Response/Code Team
NOTE: This position will require work to be performed on-site at a Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) facility. SCCA requires all individuals, including University of Washington faculty clinicians, working at an SCCA facility to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Unlike UW’s vaccination policy which is appended below, the SCCA policy does not provide for religious or medical exemptions. As such, a UW offer associated with this recruitment is contingent upon, among other things, the preferred candidate demonstrating that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by no later than the commencement of their appointment.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program
- Current and valid Washington state PA or ARNP & DEA license
- ACLS certification
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- One year of ARNP or PA-C experience in Surgery/Surgical Oncology strongly preferred
- Strong flexible team player with a can-do attitude is a must! Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team is essential.
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
