Position Description

The Department of Epidemiology within the School of Public Health at the University of Washington seeks one creative, collaborative, and forward-thinking individual to join our faculty as a member of our Teaching faculty. Our faculty are excited to welcome individuals who are eager to train the next generation of public health professionals using innovative and inclusive pedagogy in order to enhance and sustain population health and well-being (https://epi.washington.edu). We invite applications for one faculty position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor (non-tenure eligible) in the Department of Epidemiology. This position is full time (100% FTE) with a 12-month service period and potential anticipated start date as early as Fall 2022. The position is based in Seattle, Washington. Salary will be based on qualifications and experience. The successful applicant for this position will be expected to:

  1. Provide educational leadership including classroom teaching, curriculum development, and student mentoring for undergraduate and graduate students in Epidemiology with emphasis on active engagement, innovative pedagogy and increasing equity, diversity, and inclusion within the classroom;
  2. Support the School’s priority of advancing health equity, including through methods and approaches to promote health among Black and Indigenous populations;
  3. Increase instructional capacity in a wide range of epidemiologic and interdisciplinary methods; and
  4. Contribute to the Department’s mission through serving on committees and collaborating with other faculty members, staff, students, partners, and community stakeholders.

Qualifications

Applicants must have:

  1. A master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in epidemiology, or another field of public health;
  2. A record of high-quality and innovative teaching and mentorship, including at least 3 years of teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level;
  3. Strong skills in communication and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams; and
  4. Demonstrated record of increasing equity, diversity, inclusion and anti-racism.

We welcome applicants who have experience instructing in any line of scholarly inquiry related to Epidemiology.

Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, a PhD in epidemiology, or another field of public health and experience instructing in Epidemiologic Methods, Social Epidemiology, Injury and Violence Epidemiology, Psychiatric and Behavioral Health Epidemiology, Reproductive Epidemiology, Genetic Epidemiology, Neuroepidemiology, Mathematical Modeling and Epidemiologic Methods for Big Data.

  1. A cover letter of approximately 600 words describing what the applicant sees as their future potential contributions to the Department, community, and the field based on their past accomplishments, experiences, and leadership;
  2. A curriculum vitae detailing teaching, mentorship, practice, service, research, professional, and leadership experiences;
  3. A statement of approximately 600 words describing the applicant’s accomplishments and interests in teaching and mentoring;
  4. A statement of approximately 600 words describing the applicant’s demonstrated experience in support of increasing equity, diversity, and inclusion in academic or other settings.
  5. Contact information for four (4) people willing to provide a letter of reference. Letters will only be requested during the final review stages.
