Position Description

The University of Washington’s Department of Ophthalmology is currently recruiting for a full-time physician specializing in glaucoma.  This position will be based at the UW Medicine Eye Institute at Harborview Medical Center. Anticipated start date is summer 2022 although earlier starts will be considered.

This appointment may be at the rank of Assistant, Associate or full Professor, without tenure due to source of funding, and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Qualified candidates of all levels of experience will be considered. This is a multi-year position with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30).

Responsibilities include clinical care, resident and fellow supervision and training, including both medical and surgical training, and teaching of medical students. 

Candidates will be expected to provide medical and surgical glaucoma care, including treatment of consult and emergency patients and surgery at the University of Washington affiliated sites of practice which include Harborview Medical Center, the VA Puget Sound Health Care System and UW Medical Centers.

University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. Successful candidates will be expected to engage in substantial teaching and scholarly research in academic ophthalmology.  Protected time for academic endeavors will be provided.

Qualifications

Candidates must have an MD degree (or foreign equivalent) and have completed ophthalmology residency (or foreign equivalent) and one or more years of postgraduate training in medical and surgical management of glaucoma. 

A demonstrated record of teaching and scholarly research in ophthalmology is required. Applicants must be American Board of Ophthalmology-certified (or foreign equivalent) or Board eligible and eligible for licensure in the State of Washington.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S,) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
