Position Description

The University of Washington's Department of Ophthalmology is currently recruiting for a full-time position in comprehensive ophthalmology.  This position will be based at Harborview Medical Center. This position is without tenure due to funding and is a 12-month service period appointment (July 1 – June 30).  Anticipated start date is summer 2022.

This appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate or full Professor and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Qualified candidates of all levels of experience will be considered.

Responsibilities include clinical care, resident and fellow supervision and training including both medical and surgical training, and teaching of medical students. Candidates will be expected to provide medical and surgical care, including evaluation and treatment of consult and emergency patients. A substantial portion of the position will be oversight of emergency and inpatient consults, as Director of Consult Services for Harborview Medical Center, a busy urban Level I trauma center. A comprehensive ophthalmology practice will constitute a lesser portion of the position. Candidates will be expected to engage primarily in the essential services described above, although there may also be opportunities to engage in activities related to subspecialties.

Qualifications

Candidates must have an MD degree (or foreign equivalent) and have completed ophthalmology residency (or foreign equivalent).  

A demonstrated record of teaching and scholarly research in ophthalmology is required.  Applicants must be American Board of Ophthalmology-certified (or foreign equivalent) or Board eligible and eligible for licensure in the State of Washington.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S,) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
