Position Description
The University of Washington, Department of Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine is seeking a full-time academic orthopaedic hand surgeon. The practice will be located at Harborview Medical Center and the Northwest Hospital campus of the University of Washington Medical Center. The appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor level (without tenure due to lack of funding). The holder of this position will join the Combined Hand Surgery Service, a program shared between the Department of Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine and the Division of Plastic Surgery, and will include an adjunct appointment with the Department of Surgery. Clinical responsibilities include the broad spectrum of hand surgery and microsurgery as well as hand call at a busy Level 1 Trauma Center. The position will be expected to provide excellence in clinical care, research and scholarly activities in the candidate's area of interest and education of our residents and fellows. The successful candidate will be expected to provide excellence in teaching residents and fellows and development of a basic science, clinical or educational research program within the fields of hand and microsurgery. The position has a 12-month service period from July 1 through June 30th with an anticipated start date in Fall 2022. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.
Qualifications
Applicants must have an MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent), be board certified (or eligible) in orthopaedic surgery and ACGME fellowship trained in hand/microvascular surgery. Required qualifications include expertise in complex upper extremity trauma including replantation and microsurgical reconstruction, as well as comprehensive treatment of hand and upper extremity disorders. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or foreign equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
