Position Description
The Department of Physics at the University of Washington invites applications for a post-doctoral scholar position. The successful candidate will work on the ATLAS experiment the LHC and the IRIS-HEP project with Prof. Gordon Watts.
The University of Washington Experimental Particle Physics group (EPE) consists of four professors, four postdoctoral scholars, and four graduate students working on the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. Our physics interests are focused on electroweak symmetry breaking and the search for exotic decays of the Higgs, especially in searches for Long Lived Particles. We are a founding member of the IRIS-HEP project (Institute for Research and Innovation in Software for the HL-LHC, http://iris-hep.org). Our group’s IRIS-HEP work is in developing analysis systems: enabling the expansion of HEP into the python-based analysis ecosystem, low latency analysis of large datasets, and as a longer term goal differentiable analysis.
Postdoctoral Scholars are represented by UAW 4121 and are subject to the collective bargaining agreement, unless agreed exclusion criteria apply. For more information, please visit the University of Washington Labor Relations website.
Qualifications
The successful applicant should have a PhD or foreign equivalent by the time they start at the University of Washington and be interested in contributing to both the software and long-lived particle search physics program.
