Position Description

The School of Art + Art History + Design at the University of Washington welcomes applications for a Lecturer, full-time, temporary, appointment in the Photo/Media concentration in the Division of Art for the 2021-2022 academic year. The appointment starts in September 2021 and ends June 2022 and has a 100% full-time, nine-month service period.

The Photo/Media concentration emphasizes a wide range of conceptual and technical practices with an emphasis on photography, video, installation, sound and related media; we support a strong conceptual and technical foundation and encourage cross-disciplinary initiatives. The Photo/Media concentration oversees a robust facility including a B/W black and white darkroom, sound studio, lighting studio, digital video and image production, and student galleries. The concentration is supported by three full-time tenured faculty and 1.5 FTE technicians.

Qualifications

Candidates must be able to teach at all levels in the undergraduate and graduate program and be proficient in a range of approaches to photography and digital media. The individual hired can integrate their research and pedagogy, and provide a diverse, expanded approach to the Photo/Media concentration. The individual hired will teach a total of six Photo/Media courses, two each quarter in the 2021-2022 academic school year. Salary is commensurate with experience. This is a benefits eligible position. There is a possibility that other opportunities to support the successful candidate’s research practice will exist.

It is preferred that applicants have an MFA or foreign equivalent—as well as a strong professional and academic record.
