The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and the UW Medicine Garvey Institute for Brain Health Solutions has an exciting opportunity for a full-time faculty member at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level (without tenure due to funding) with expertise in Medication Development for Substance Use Disorders, a new position that will be supported, in part, by an endowment from the Rick L. Seaver Endowed Professorship for Brain Wellness. Rank will be determined commensurate with experience and qualifications. The holder of this position will have the opportunity to work across multiple disciplines, including basic science, and to collaborate with research and clinical faculty across the University of Washington and UW Medicine. They will be charged with developing and directing a new “Center for Medication Development for Substance Use Disorders” in the context of the Garvey Institute and are expected to make significant contributions to teaching and research in this field.  Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, candidates who have achieved regional or national recognition in the field of substance use disorders.

The successful candidate will develop an innovative, interdisciplinary Center for Medication Development for Substance Use Disorders at UW Medicine. Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, experience with advancement / philanthropic activities.  This position will be expected to to effectively support the training and mentorship of trainees and junior faculty in medication and / or vaccine development for substance use disorders

The endowed professorship will be an initial 5-year appointment which is renewable at the discretion of the Institute Director and the Department Chair.  Faculty in the Department have an annual service period of 12 months (July 1 through June 30).  The anticipated start date is August 2021.

Qualifications

  1. Candidates must have an established and funded translational research portfolio in one or more of the following areas: a) addictions, b) substance use disorders c) medication or vaccine development for the prevention or treatment of substance use disorders.
  2. Documented record of collaboration with clinicians and clinician researchers on the clinical testing and application of medications and/or vaccines in the prevention and / or treatment of substance use disorders.  
  3. This position will be expected to collaborate with clinicians and clinician researchers on the clinical testing and application of medications and/or vaccines in the prevention and / or treatment of substance use disorders.
  4. Experience supporting the training and mentorship of trainees and junior faculty in medication and / or vaccine development for substance use disorders.
  5. An MD/DO, PhD, PsyD, or foreign equivalent in a relevant field.
  6. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
