Position Description

The University of Washington Tacoma (UW Tacoma) invites applications for multiple criminal justice part-time lecturer (temporary) positions in the School of Social Work and Criminal Justice. Appointments are part-time, quarterly, and the number of courses available per year varies based upon curricular needs. Course areas include but are not limited to those in police & society, introduction to criminal justice, criminal courts, youth and juvenile justice, human trafficking, disproportionality and social justice, abolitionism, and white-collar crime. We are particularly interested in individuals who teach from a social justice perspective and/or with experience in social activism.

The program places a strong emphasis on equity and inclusion of all under-represented populations in both its student and faculty recruitment efforts.

Part-time lecturers may also have the opportunity to teach courses in the Social Work programs. If you are interested in teaching in the Social Work curriculum, please also include which Social Welfare/Social Work courses you are interested and/or qualified to teach in your application materials.

Qualifications

A graduate degree in Criminal Justice/Criminology or a closely related field. Although a graduate degree is strongly preferred, applicants holding an undergraduate degree along with significant experience in criminal justice, community activism, and/or work with underrepresented and marginalized groups will be considered.

Teaching experience at the college/university level is preferred.

Instructions

Applications materials include: 1) a brief letter delineating interest and qualifications, with specific content related to how you would address social justice, equity, and inclusion of under-represented populations in your teaching; 2) evidence of teaching effectiveness in the classroom or alternative teaching/training settings; 3) curriculum vitae; and 4) and the names and contact information for three professional references.
