Position Description
The Division of Genetic Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, at the University of Washington is recruiting a Medical Director of Clinical Biochemical Genetics Services at the level of Associate or Full Professor level without tenure (commensurate with experience and qualifications) on the Clinician-Scholar track. The position will be a full-time, multi-year appointment over a 12-month service period from July 1-June 30.
Responsibilities will include coordinating the administrative and clinical activities of the Biochemical Genetics program within the Division of Genetic Medicine and supervising hospital personnel whose primary work responsibilities are related to Biochemical Genetics Medicine in partnership with the leadership in the Division of Genetic Medicine. The Medical Director will also be responsible for establishing patient care protocols in collaboration medical and non-medical services.
Other responsibilities will include patient care (inpatient consultations, outpatient genetics clinics, regional clinics) and teaching of medical students and residents. Opportunities will be available for clinical research and collaboration with physician/scientists in the Seattle Children’s Research Institute and basic scientists in the Department of Genome Sciences at the University of Washington. Clinical services in the Division are currently provided by four biochemical geneticists, 2 genetic counselors, 3 nurses, 3 dietitians, and 1 social worker.
All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. Anticipated start date is Summer 2021.
Qualifications
Applicants should have an MD, or DO, or MD/DO combined (or foreign equivalent) and be board-certified in Clinical Genetics (MD or DO required) and be either board-certified or board-eligible in Medical Biochemical Genetics. Positive factors for consideration include but are not limited to board certification in Pediatrics or Internal Medicine.
In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
