Position Description

The University of Washington School of Dentistry is ranked No. 3 in the United States. The Department of Orthodontics is seeking a full-time postdoctoral scholar appointment. This is a 4-year full-time position that is open immediately until filled. Appointment could be longer subject to funding and mutual agreement (the Postdoctoral Scholar title is limited to five years, including postdoctoral experience(s) at UW and other institutions)

  • Carry out studies on the function, malfunction and regeneration of the tongue base in a large animal model – minipigs.
  • Be responsible for scheduling and performing experiments involving animal manipulations and daily care, surgical implantations, longitudinal in vivo recordings of electromyography (EMG), sonography, x-ray fluoroscopy, and MRI, and histology for the myoregeneration related to satellite cells.
  • Perform data analyses, interpretations, presentations, and drafting of publishable papers.
  • Assist with other ongoing projects and lab activities, including lab management.


  • Master and/or PhD degree in the areas of biology and physiology or related fields.
  • Broad knowledge and experience in animal surgery, variety of bioelectronic signal capturing, digital imaging and processing, and skeletal muscle histology and immunohistochemistry.  
  • Good publication record and extensive computer skills.
