Position Description

Bloodworks Northwest and the University of Washington (UW) announces the availability for a qualified physician position as the Chief Medical Officer will have overall responsibilities for providing medical direction and support for all aspects of Bloodworks’ activities. The incumbent serves as the medical division’s policy decision maker.

Ability to obtain appointment in the UW, School of Medicine, Department of Laboratory Medicine at the level of Associate or Full Professor without tenure (WOT) due to reason of funding is required. The Department of Laboratory Medicine and the Department of Pathology will be consolidated as of 7/1/2020, and the appointing department will be the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology as of that date.

This is a full-time, 12-month service position and remains open until filled with an anticipated start date of summer 2020, but is flexible.

Qualifications

Candidates must have an M.D. or D.O. (or foreign equivalent). Candidates should also be board certified in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine.  In lieu of board certification, candidates who meet the requirements for CLIA laboratory director with 3 years’ experience in blood collections, immunohematology, apheresis, and cellular therapy will also be considered.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of non-U.S. medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
