Position Description

The Fu Laboratory, Division of Hematology, Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine are seeking a highly motivated scientist who is interested in combining single-molecule fluorescence imaging and force manipulation, microfluidics, gene editing, and stem cell biology to investigate important biomedical questions. Our studies aim to discover the mechanisms governing the biological functions and seek new methodologies for therapeutics testing and treatment of related diseases. Specifically, the successful candidate will apply single-molecule biophysics methods to study how the proteins in our cardiovascular system respond to the force generated by blood flow, and how this response is related to their functions in both physiological and pathophysiological conditions such as bleeding disorders and thrombosis. The applicant can also involve in the studies on differentiating gene-edited human pluripotent stem cell lines into organoids for the purposes of disease modeling.

This position requires a Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in Molecular Biology/Cell Biology/Biophysics/Physics/Bioengineering or relevant fields and a minimum of two years’ experience performing experiments in a biophysical or bioengineering or biological research laboratory. The preferred research experience includes single-molecule biophysics, microfluidics, stem cell biology, tissue culture, fluorescence microscopy, and programming for data acquisition, instrument control, and image processing using LabVIEW and MATLAB.
