The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Washington is recruiting a faculty member at the level of Research Associate Professor, non-tenure, full-time (12-month service pierod) appointment, to join the University of Washington School of Medicine at the Seattle VA Medical Center. The faculty member will also serve as a member of the CLiMB (Center for Limb Loss and MoBility) Research Center. The anticipated start date for this position is in autumn 2020. 

The Seattle Veterans Administration Medical Center, CLiMB Research Center is a VA Rehabilitation Research and Development funded research center that is focused on the maintenance and enhancement of mobility in individuals with lower extremity amputation as well as those with lower extremity musculoskeletal disorders. Research spans the continuum of care from prevention, through operative, as well as non-operative treatment. The research center includes investigators with a broad range of expertise including the biomechanics of human movement, musculotendinous biomechanics, prosthetic engineering, virtual reality, 3D printing, amputee rehabilitation, and orthopedic surgery.  

The Research Associate Professor will be expected to develop his/her own independently funded research program as well as collaborate with other center investigators in supporting the CLiMB mission. The research program will include epidemiologic aspects of amputation and musculoskeletal disorders, including outcome prediction modelling, qualitative research designs and patient decision aid/decision support tool development, but also support the conduct of clinical trials. Translation of research findings into improvements in clinical care will be the overarching goal of the research program. There will also be a need to participate in dissertation committees, and guide and mentor trainees in the conduct of research.

Applicants are expected to have a PhD or MD/PhD (or foreign equivalent) in Epidemiology or Health Services Research. Candidates should demonstrate a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications in amputation and/or musculoskeletal research that would include a minimum of 40 publications in high-quality scientific journals.  In addition, there is a need to have demonstrated success in obtaining large federally funded grants, as well as, managing previous or current DoD, NIH, and/or VA Merit Review research awards in excess of 1 million dollars.  

Candidates are required to have at least three years of experience in the development of prediction models and experience translating prediction models into decision support tools. Applicants must be US citizens and meet the hiring requirements of the Veterans Administration.
