The online Integrated Social Sciences Program (ISS) at the University of Washington invites applications for two non-tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Lecturer Full-Time, beginning in Autumn 2020 (100% FTE, 9-month appointment).  University of Washington lecturers are faculty who engage in teaching and service.  Lecturers are eligible for renewable multi-year appointments, promotion, and paid professional leave, among other benefits available to full-time UW faculty members, but are not eligible for tenure.  The selected candidate will be expected to perform online instruction, apply interdisciplinary approaches in the social sciences, exhibit innovation in teaching and collaborative pedagogy, and work effectively with adult learners.  

ISS is an online degree completion program that awards a BA degree from the College of Arts and Sciences.  The rigorous, interdisciplinary curriculum gives students broad training in Social Science theory and methods and provides hands on experience developing research portfolios.  The program is dedicated to improving access to higher education and to promoting diversity, inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational environment.  Program faculty include both University of Washington faculty with primary responsibilities to other academic programs and dedicated ISS faculty.  All faculty are expected to contribute to the program’s mission of inclusion.  More information about the program and its curriculum can be found here:

Full time lecturers in the ISS program typically teach 6 courses per year, primarily in required core courses, and support students in development of an e-portfolio project.  The interdisciplinary core courses teach foundational skills in social science theory and research methods.  In addition to the core courses, ISS lecturers have opportunity to teach at least at least one thematic or topical course per year.  Lecturers are currently teaching courses that have already been designed by other faculty, but may also have opportunities to revise or develop their own courses when funding is available.  The formal academic appointments of ISS lecturers are within partner departments in the Social Sciences Division of Arts and Sciences.  


The successful candidate will have Ph.D. or foreign equivalent, or be ABD in a social sciences discipline or program that provides training in social sciences theory and methods.  Ph.D. or foreign equivalent must be completed at time of appointment.  Candidates should have university teaching experience.  We seek candidates from all social science disciplines, and welcome applicants with scholarship in one of the following areas:  post-colonial studies; indigenous studies; migration and diaspora, critical race theory; gender, women, and sexuality studies; environmental and economic inequality, or similar discipline.
