Position Description

The University of Washington (UW), located in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, is seeking a full-time Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our growing structural heart team.  This is a great opportunity to become a faculty member at one of the nation’s leading medical and academic institutions, and work in a fast-paced, supportive, and autonomous environment. 

The structural heart team at the UW provides outpatient and inpatient services for preoperative and postoperative TAVR, MitraClip, and LAA closure patients.  This position will work closely with a multidisciplinary team that includes Cardiothoracic Surgeons, Interventional Cardiologists, residents, fellows, and RN’s to provide independent and collaborative management to patients undergoing catheter based procedures in a rapidly changing and developing environment. This position provides a faculty appointment at the rank of Teaching Associate in the Department of Surgery, on a twelve month service period with an anticipated start date of spring 2020.    

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work on dedicated Structural Heart service with an interdisciplinary professional team of providers and staff
  • Perform bedside procedures
  • Provide a full spectrum of care for a structural heart patient population
  • Participate in the education of nursing staff and residents
  • Participate in quality improvement projects and process improvement activities for the structural heart service through the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery
  • Maintains a culture of interprofessional collaborative practice based on clinical excellence and mutual respect.
  • Promotes organizational philosophy of Patients are First Initiatives and Pillars.
  • Performs other related duties as required

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Eligible for either Washington state Physician Assistant licensure for PA-C or Registered Nurse and ARNP Licensure.
  • Graduate Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program or Physician Assistant program.
  • Nationally certified ARNP/PA with DEA.
  • Proven excellence working in an interdisciplinary collaborative team environment.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, leadership skills, and clinical expertise in the care of patients undergoing Cardiothoracic Surgical procedures.
  • ACLS certification.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer knowledge and command of basic personal computer skills.
