The University of Washington's School of Medicine invites applications for a biostatistician in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. This position is a full-time (12-month) faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank, dependent on experience and qualifications.  The appointment is without tenure (consistent with all faculty appointments within the Department). Without-tenure faculty members have the same rights, responsibilities, and obligations as tenure-track and tenured faculty members at those ranks. The ideal start date for the position will be on or after August 1, 2020.

We are seeking a biostatistician who has interest and background in health-related research and is interested in collaborating with other faculty in our department in the development and conduct of research projects in the field of rehabilitation. The primary responsibility of the biostatistics faculty member will be to collaborate with other faculty in the development and conduct of rehabilitation research projects.  Additional responsibilities will include providing biostatistical consultation to students in the Rehabilitation Science PhD program, and general statistical consulting to department faculty, residents, and fellows.  All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Thus, the position would also involve expectations for service (e.g., being a member of committees) and teaching (e.g., lectures in established courses). In addition, for interested candidates, there is also the opportunity for teaching in core courses in the Rehabilitation Science PhD program.  

The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine is nationally recognized for excellence in education, research, and clinical care.  The Department’s various research programs, led by world-renowned leaders in Rehabilitation Science, as well as academic programs including the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), Master of Prosthetics and Orthotics (MPO), Master of Occupational Therapy, and PhD in Rehabilitation Science programs, provide rich opportunities for interdisciplinary research, teaching, and learning. The Department has an exceptional record of successful extramural research funding and interprofessional collaboration.    

The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine ranked #5 in US News & World Report, is a dynamic academic and clinical department in the University of Washington School of Medicine and Affiliated Hospitals, which include the UW Medical Centers, Harborview Medical Center, Veterans Administration Puget Sound Health Care System, and Seattle Children’s Hospital. The department currently holds $19 million in grants from federal and foundation funding sources.

Candidates must have obtained a PhD (or foreign equivalent) in biostatistics or a closely related field on or before the start date of the position.  The ideal candidate would have experience and expertise in a variety of clinical research designs and analyses. These could include but are not necessarily limited to randomized controlled trials, quasi-experimental trials, mediation and moderation analyses, longitudinal cohort research studies, and preclinical studies.
