The University of Washington, Department of Pediatrics and Seattle Children's Hospital are seeking a pediatric academic physician with a national reputation to lead our division and academic program in the field of Pediatric Rheumatology.

The Division of Pediatric Rheumatology at Seattle Children's Hospital and Research Institute and the University of Washington, is world-renowned as one of the oldest programs in the world - with dedicated nursing support that serve the states of Washington, Alaska, Idaho and Montana.  Our very diverse population of patients come primarily from these states, and represent a wide range of background and ethnicity, as well as unique and rare diseases.  

The Division has a growing research program at the University of Washington and Seattle Children's Research Institute with a focus on Immunological and autoimmune diseases and collaborates closely with the Benaroya Research Institute, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and the Seattle area biotech industry.  In addition to investigator-initiated studies, the division is actively involved in the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA) projects, is a member of Pediatric Rheumatology Collaborative Research Group (PRCSG) and participates in pharmaceutical clinical trials. The division has an outstanding fellowship training program which has been supported by an NIH T32 for decades.

The successful applicant will supervise the provision of clinical care in all programs, as well as the training of students, residents and fellows in both inpatient and research settings.  Appointment as a full time Associate Professor (without tenure due to funding) or full Professor (without tenure due to funding) of Pediatrics, at the University of Washington, School of Medicine, will be commensurate with experience, training and achievement.  This is a 12-month service period position.  Anticipated start date is Spring/Summer 2020.

All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.


The successful candidate will have an MD or DO (or foreign equivalent) and have completed a pediatric rheumatology fellowship and be board certified in pediatric rheumatology. An MD/DO is also acceptable.

The successful candidate for the Division of Pediatric Rheumatology should be a nationally-respected academic pediatric rheumatologist, have strong administrative skills, a track record for successfully mentoring junior faculty in their scholarly pursuits and an established research program that includes a demonstrated ability to attract research funding.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
