Position Description

The Departments of Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine (School of Medicine) and Mechanical Engineering (College of Engineering), in partnership with the Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine (ISCRM), invite applications for a full-time associate professor with tenure or professor with tenure commensurate with experience. 

Applications are sought in the broad areas of tissue engineering, mechanobiology, and/or regenerative medicine as they pertain to connective tissues. The position will focus on musculoskeletal conditions that affect women’s health and fitness, e.g. osteoarthritis, osteoporosis and ligament/tendon disease. This position is supported in part by the Endowed Chair for Women’s Sports and Lifetime Fitness.

We are seeking an exceptional candidate who will develop a high-impact research program that leverages the resources and potential of both departments and ISCRM, contribute to an innovative undergraduate curriculum. The position will involve innovative, high-quality teaching; engaging in collaborative research efforts that help build on research focus areas by developing a vigorous, collaborative, funded research program; and contributing to the goals and missions of both departments and the university. This is a 12-month service period position (July-June) with an anticipated start date in Fall 2020.

The mission of the Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine (ISCRM) is to harness breakthroughs in stem cell biology to develop new treatments for today’s patients (http://iscrm.uw.edu).  The University of Washington is uniquely positioned among biomedical research institutions in its ability to lead in both basic discovery and its application to the treatment of disease.  The University and its affiliated institutions, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Children's Hospital, are widely regarded as leaders among the premiere biomedical research institutions in the world, with great strengths in the constellation of areas crucial for success in stem cell research and regenerative medicine.

 

Qualifications

Applicants must have a PhD (or foreign equivalent) in a relevant field by the date of appointment and excellent communication skills. The successful applicant has demonstrated sustained productivity and demonstrated success in securing extramural funding from national agencies, as demonstrated by an active research program and publication record.
