The Department of Pediatrics, at the University of Washington School of Medicine and the Center for Global Infectious Disease Research in the Seattle Children's Research Institute is recruiting a full time Associate Professor without tenure or Full Professor, without tenure, commensurate with experience and qualifications.  This is a 12-month service period position with an anticipated start date of Winter 2020.

The successful applicant will join the faculty of 20 scientists to establish and lead an independent and extramurally-funded research program, actively collaborate with other faculty and scientists, participate in teaching and mentoring graduate and postdoctoral students as well as junior faculty investigators.  The successful applicant will also enjoy a competitive start-up package and excellent space and state-of-the-art facilities in the Research Institute.

Seattle Children’s Research Institute, the research division of Seattle Children’s Hospital, is one of the top five pediatric research centers in the nation whose discoveries in bench, clinical, and outcomes research are recognized by scientists worldwide. The research institute fosters a cutting-edge academic environment supporting multidisciplinary research, collaboration, and professional development.  The research campus is located in the heart of Seattle's research community, close to key partners including the University of Washington, the Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Center, as well as several prominent biotechnology institutions.   In 2018, Seattle Children’s Research Institute received $125 million in extramural research funding, including over $68 million in federal funding.  Investigators are involved in hundreds of projects that cover every phase of research, from studying how diseases work to improving investigational therapies.

At CGIDR, we are committed to making transformative scientific advances that lead to the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases impacting children and families around the world.  Successful applicants will join an exceptional and collaborative research and training environment. CGIDR recently expanded due to the joining of 13 faculty from the Center for Infectious Diseases Research (formerly Seattle Biomedical Research Institute) thus forming a large and dynamic center focused on infectious diseases globally. Current efforts are focused on understanding the pathogenesis of diseases caused by HIV, arboviruses, malaria, neglected protozoan diseases, tuberculosis and other bacterial pathogens as well as developing treatments and vaccines.

University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. 


Requires an M.D. or Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent). MD/PhD (or foreign equivalent) is also acceptable.

The successful candidate must have a record of research excellence and productivity in infectious disease research on host or pathogen cell biology, immunology or human immunology. 

Applications are invited in any area of basic or translational laboratory-based research relevant to infectious diseases, including systems biology, immunology and biotechnology.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
